Frequently asked questions about the process
Can I trust you?
Memories are priceless.
The money you spent on the tape is irrelevant but the memories captured on them can never be replicated. I treat your media as if it were my own and have a very organized process to ensure nothing gets lost or damaged.
What does it cost?
No hidden fees. I do this for you.
There are many online services that digitize old media but they’re riddled with hidden costs. Our pricing is simple. Just $18 for each video and $0.72 for each photo. I also offer upgrade options like 4K mastering for video files and photo restoration for damaged images.
How does it work?
Gather. Convert. Share.
It’s important that you know you can trust me. Memories can’t be recreated and there’s only one copy of your photos and home videos.
Depending on the amount of media you’re providing, it generally takes 1-2 weeks to digitize your content.
Is it safe to ship my media?
Tracked. Insured. Protected.
If you’re in the south Florida area then there’s no need to ship. You and I will meet in person, I’ll introduce myself, and put your mind at ease that your tapes and photos are safe with me.
If you’re outside of Florida I can provide you an insured and trackable packaging label. Simply drop it off at any USPS drop off location and I’ll handle it from there.
What do I get back from you?
Future proof archiving and delivery.
Once your memories are digitized I provide you with a free download link to your tapes and photos. The link can be shared with family and friends and expires after 30 days. I also sell flash drives with your media for $10. DVDs are available for $10 a disc.
Can you improve the quality?
Fix the focus.
Absolutely. For an additional $8 a tape, I can convert your standard definition media to stunning 4K video.
For an additional $0.05 a photo, I can restore scratched, torn or faded photos.
What if my tapes are damaged?
Fixing the past.
I understand how important your media is to you. In some cases tapes can be disassembled and repaired for a nominal cost. Tapes that have mold are run through a cleaning reel to clean the tape as best as possible before the media is captured. I’ll do my very best to bring your memories back to life.
How long have you been doing this?
Preserving memories and legacies.
The idea of Memory Converter was forged in my home office during COVID. I was working in Los Angeles and my video production company was shut down with the mandates. I reached out to my parents and asked them for all of our home movies and photo albums and spent the year digitizing everything we owned. Now, our entire family history is preserved for future generations and I have the experience and confidence to preserve your family history.
What payment options do you have?
The bottomline.
I accept cash, credit card, PayPal, Venmo and Zelle.
Do you offer discounts for large orders?
Custom pricing plans.
I offer flexible pricing for orders greater than 10 video tapes or 250 photos. Prices vary for bulk orders so it’s best to contact me so I can put together a custom quote for you and your family.
Are there privacy guarantees for my tapes?
Private and protected.
Yes. All of your tapes and photos are treated with the upmost privacy and security. Once your media is captured, your original tapes and photos are returned to you and you hold the only copy.
What file format will my videos be saved as?
Formats for the future.
I create MP4 files by default but I can output any format you’d like. I like MP4 files because they are the most ubiquitous video file. You can send the video files to your friends and family through iMessage, WhatsApp, YouTube, or Vimeo.
Sometimes I’ll get a request to create a DVD with the converted media. I’m certainly able to do this (additional $10 per disc) but most people don’t have DVD players anymore so you’re putting yourself in a corner for a future conversion.
How many customers have you helped so far?
Hundred of people, thousands of family members.
To date I’ve helped hundreds of families which translates to 1,773 tapes and 35,357 photos.
Can you convert tapes from different regions?
I don’t have borders.
Yes. I am able to convert NTSC, PAL, and SECAM media.
What happens to my tapes when you’re done?
Turning tapes into paperweights.
It’s totally up to you. I capture the tapes in the highest resolution possible when I’m digitizing the media. For a small fee, the video files can be upgraded using artificial intelligence to make them even sharper and more vibrant in 4K. The tapes at this point can be disposed of or kept as relics of the past.
Do you offer editing services once my media is converted?
The directors cut.
Yes. Whether you’d like a slideshow for an upcoming birthday after your photos have been scanned or a condensed version of your family vacation video, you’re in the director’s chair and your vision is my mission.
Recently it was my Grandmother’s 90th birthday. My wife and I were living abroad in Israel and missed the party so I put together a slideshow for her with a special video clip of us at the end. I also made one for my father in law.
What customers say…
I wish I could give Jeremy of Memory Converter, ten stars!
There are many companies out there who will convert tapes and films to digital, but they won't give personal service like Jeremy; they won't charge reasonable rates like Jeremy; they won't do such a terrific job as Jeremy.
